The Minefield: Beware of Complainitis

What is COMPLAINITIS? It is a self-centered expression and discontent failing to trust God and submit to His sovereign plan for our lives. It is a serious sin against God.

Why do we complain?

  • -It is easier to complain that to find a solution
  • -People complain to avoid responsibility
  • -Most people feel that it is a good conversation starter
  • -We are myopic.
  • -We are sinners
  • -We have a wrong view of God

We live in a complaining generation without regards to gratitude. Complaining is contagious.

STOP COMPLAINING

14 Do everything without complaining and arguing, 15 so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. 16 Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless. Philippians 2:14-16

Grumble: complain or protest about something in a bad-tempered but typically muted away.

  • -It is an issue of the heart
  • -Nobody wants to hear it and it is bad for you
  • -Studies show that half an hour of complaining affects the problem-solving part of the brain; it also floods the bloodstream
  • -Spending today complaining about yesterday won’t make tomorrow any better

If you have time to whine and complain about something, then you have the time to do something about it.

Stop complaining by ASSUMING RESPONSIBILITY.

TRUST JESUS

3 Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

  • -Admit you need God
  • -The only thing complaining does is convince other people that you are not in control
  • -The more you know God, the less you will complain
  • -If you know God intimately, you will humble before Him and won’t complain

5 In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”[a] 6 So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. 7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:5-7

Be like a lighthouse. Guide other people towards God’s light. While it looks like things are out of control behind the scenes there is a God who has not surrendered authority

Don’t judge the situation by what you see but by what God has promised you

21 Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Romans 1:21

START THANKING. Appreciate Life.

28 And we know that God causes everything to work together[a] for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28

6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:6

18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

50 Your promise revives me;
it comforts me in all my troubles. Psalms 119:50

12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything through Christ,[a] who gives me strength. Philippians 4:12-13

If you are still not grateful, you are not paying attention

As long as a man lives and not burning in hell, there’s no cause for you to complain.
