These are my notes from B1G Fridays Crossfits: Rise Up in Worship
What is Worship to you?
“Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.” “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” John? ?4:20-24? ?NIV??
Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and[i] knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!
34 “Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?”[j]
35 “Who has ever given to God,
that God should repay them?”[k]
36 For from him and through him and for him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen. Romans 11:33-36
What is the chief end of man?
To Glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
It is not something we do externally like a chore. It bursts out of us. True worship is the result of the taste of God’s goodness.
Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.
The Objective of True Worship
To worship Only God Himself. God of scriptures. God of the Bible.
God is bigger than what you think. You cannot confine Him in temples and cannot create Him in the fragments of our imagination. We must not create God in accordance with our own image. We sometimes want a God who would fit our needs. But it is wrong. We must conform to God and not the other way around. We have to worship God for who He says He is, not who we want Him to be.
The Manner of True Worship
The error in worship:
Right motive but the wrong understanding
Right understanding but the wrong motive
We should worship in spirit and in truth instead.
Worship in Spirit
Be Empowered by the Holy Spirit. There will be no true worship if there’s no surrendering. It is worship in the inner being. What you do inside should reflect on the outside. Not bound by space or circumstance.
16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? 1 Cor 3:16
Worship in Truth
True worship comes out of an understanding of the word of God. The more you know God, the more you will love God. The more you love God, the more you will worship Him.
16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. Colossians 3:16
The Result of True Worship
When you have the spirit and truth and you combine them together, there will be an explosion of emotion. Worship should not be based on circumstances, should not be based on feelings. It should be based on the truth. I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.
25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Acts 16:25
Do you understand what God has done for us?
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
Jesus died so that we may be able to get the greatest gift of all – God Himself.
